Vlog: Favorite Products + Tips for Travel

Hello, lovelies! Boy, it’s been a minute, hasn’t it? I hope your summer has been eventful and that you’ve been able to chase some sunshine and go on at least a mini vacation (even if your destination is your own backyard with a good book!). Lots of good stuff has been a’brewin’ here, which is marvelous, but it also means I haven’t had as much time to post. Fie on that!

My First Vlog!

But I’m back with something new new new: My first VLOG! What? YES. Is it great? Ummmm, probably not. When I look back over it, the lighting is wacky (I’m not really that red and splotchy in real life…OR AM I…?) and what was supposed to be a “short video” (air quotes) turned out to be an epic of Tolstoy proportions (sorry, guys, I’m a talker, apparently). But, it’s an easy way for me to share my time-tested travel tips, and for you to put a face to le blog (with some Justin Beiber accompaniment, to boot). So, sorry it’s long and rambly and fuzzy, but hopefully these tips are helpful or fun.

Between my time as a nomadic, free-wheelin’, backpackin’ youth and a slightly older, creature-comforts-obsessed business traveler, I know how to travel and, most importantly, I know how and what to pack that works for me no matter where I’m going. I get asked about my vegan, cruelty-free travel favorites quite a bit, so here they are. I also wrote a more detailed guide full o’ tips for Vegucated on Staying Vegan While Traveling. That badboy has links and stuff.

I frequently travel for work so I have learned to pack vegan goodies (i.e.- almond butter, healthy wraps, protein bars, etc) and then all I have to buy is the perishables! Thanks for the giveaway :)

  • Ann Matteson

I love to carry dry shampoo on trips, especially on long trips. It’s great to run some through hair to revive it and for those of us with oilier hair, get rid of some of the oil.

  • Jennifer

I loved your vlog! Please keep making more! :)

  • Katie

About to start traveling, and new to being vegan…glad I stumbled on this.

  • Heidi

I would love to win. I never splurge on myself anymore.

  • http://luminousvegans.wordpress.com luminousvegans

Great vlog! I love it. I’ve used Kuumba made fragrance oils but didn’t know that they also made lip stuff. Very cool.

  • BarefootJacq

Love the tooth powder, have to try this out! I love coconut oil for traveling and use it as – facewash, shave gel and moisturizer – triple threat! Oh, and sometimes oil pulling. And since it’s solid at room temp I can pack it in my carry on :)

I never thought about the lemon thing! What a great idea! Love the first Vlog!

  • http://thesirenstale.wordpress.com Caitlin @ The Siren’s Tale

Great giveaway… thanks for hosting it :) My favorite vegan product lately is WayFare We Can’t Say It’s Cheese. It’s creamy and delicious!

  • http://gravatar.com/cassieh2 Cassie

My travel tip is to be sure you eat foods high in antioxidants when you fly, since you’ll be exposed to extra radiation. (Kale chips!!)

  • http://glueandglitter.com/main Becky Striepe

Aw, nice work! You’re so brave – I’ve been wanting to do something like this for years but am just too camera shy. Also, I love my Vapur bottle, too! So handy.

  • http://www.cadryskitchen.com Cadry’s Kitchen

My travel tip is to pack plenty of food. You never know when there will be unforeseen layovers, and everything is better with a full stomach! I pay special attention to include something hearty & filling like baked tofu or chickpeas.

I always bring the Brita filtration water bottles with me on road trips so I won’t have a panic attack about getting free water from gas stations and hotels.

  • Dinahsoar

Enjoyed your blog and vlog! I try to drink lemon water as often as I can. I also add a couple drops of jojoba oil to my moisturizer that I use at night.

  • http://travelingpinklips.wordpress.com veganadian

This was super informative, I had no idea about the lemon trick! I will certainly try this next week. Flying does get you in a funk! I am going to look into the powdered toothpaste, pretty neat! Thanks a lot, Ashlee! Your Vblog was fantastic and I can’t wait to see more!

  • sarah robertson

  • http://www.bellaveg.com Jerilyn

I bring individual small ziploc bags full of protein powder or green powder mix, so I can easily whip up a drink if I’m on the go :)

  • Caroline

I do squats in the bathroom and BYO snacks!

  • BarefootJacq

Coconut oil! It’s solid at room temperature so you can bring it in your carry on – I use it to wash my face, as a moisturizer and shave gel (and to DIY deodorant too!)

Definitely checking out the tooth powder! How have I not heard of this before!?!

  • Becca F

Bringing some moist wipes are always nice. Something about those planes make me feel grimy

  • https://www.facebook.com/thomas0503 Amanda Thomas

My favorite beauty/travel product is Beauty Without Cruelty hand and body lotion.

  • Melanie Suess

Since I cut all my hair off, all I use to style is a dab of pomade. (All Nutrient Define, cruelty free & vegan)
I’ve taken a contact lens case: one side is filled with pomade, the other side facial moisturizer. Bam, tiny travel sized & plenty of product for most trips.
